Muir Writing Desk

John Muir is remembered today because of his prolific writing about naturalism and conservation at the end of the 19th and early 20th centuries. We can, in large part, thank him for the existence of National Parks. His rapturous writings captured the minds and hearts of a generation, reminding them that mankind does indeed need beauty in as much as it needs bread to survive, that natural places were significant as well as vulnerable. With his writings, he advocated for natural beauty to be inherently valued, not merely as a resource, but by nature of its very existence.

Please use this desk to leave your own mark on history, hopefully one with as much or even more fervor than its namesake. 

Constructed of all traditional joinery. All spindles are hand turned and all joints are exposed through tenons wedged in maple for your viewing pleasure. If you value woodworking joinery and clean design this desk may be for you.

Available in any domestic hardwood including Walnut, White Oak, Cherry, Ash, or Maple.

FINISH
We use a natural (and food-safe) oil/wax finish to protect and highlight the beauty of the wood so that it can be enjoyed in day-to-day activities by all ages without fear. Any spills can easily be wiped off and, over time, a simple application of oil will revitalize the piece as needed based on personal preference. Yes, it's designed to be beautiful, but it's also built to be lived in and a part of your family's life.
